    Code of Conduct

The following 'Code of Conduct' statement is governed by the organizing team of the Misinformation Village, which is responsible for enforcing it yearly and updating it during online interactions and during physical space events.

The Misinformation Village organizing committee is committed to fostering a community that respects and values diversity, inclusivity, and the unique perspectives of each individual. As such, we have established this Code of Conduct to define our expectations of behavior from everyone involved - participants, facilitators, staff, volunteers, stakeholders, and vendors.

    Our Commitment:

    • We pledge to create and uphold a safe and inclusive environment, both online and offline, free from intimidation, discrimination, and any form of hostility.
    • Every individual deserves to be treated with respect, decency, and dignity, irrespective of their gender identity, sexual orientation, nationality, race, ethnicity, age, disability, religion, or physical appearance.
    • We strive to foster an inclusive environment where diverse perspectives are heard.
    • Cultural practices, attitudes, and beliefs are to be respected and accommodated.

    Expected Behavior:

    • Treat each other’s ideas, viewpoints, and styles with respect.
    • Be honest but professional in communication. Hard truths should not be withheld but expressed constructively.
    • Remain open to learning from each other and lead by example.

    Unacceptable Behavior:

    • Any form of violence, threats, personal attacks, or derogatory language is not tolerated.
    • Harassment in all forms, including unwelcome sexual attention, physical contact, and disruptive behavior, is strictly prohibited.
    • Influencing or encouraging unacceptable behavior is not acceptable.

Examples of unacceptable behavior include, but are not limited to:

    • Offensive comments, slurs, negative stereotyping, and discriminatory remarks based on gender identity, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, religion, age, disability, or physical appearance.
    • Deliberate "outing" of any aspect of a person's identity without their consent or deliberate misgendering.
    • Threats of violence or incitement of violence, including encouraging a person to commit suicide or to engage in self-harm.
    • Stalking or following, repeated one-on-one communication despite requests to cease, unwanted photography or recording, and tracking and logging online activity without consent.
    • Unwelcome sexual attention, such as innuendos, suggestive comments, jokes of a sexual nature, sexual propositions, and requests for sexual favors.

    Reporting Violations:

Should you experience or witness any behavior that violates this Code of Conduct, we urge you to immediately report it to the event organizing team via email at info@misinfovillage.org and/or online via Discord to a Discord moderator or admin. All reports will be treated confidentially.

Our events and online discord community are your event, where everyone belongs. Thank you for being a part of this community.
